Storyline:

The story starts with Laal, full name Laal Singh Chaddha, as a young boy suffering from an unknown weakness in his legs. Rupa (played by Kareena Kapoor) was his best friend. One day, Laal Singh had stones thrown at him by a group of bullies who knocked the braces off his legs and soon realised he could run.

On a random day, Laal decides to give Rupa a visit but finds her crying outside her house. He comes to realise that Rupa’s mother was suffering from domestic violence. Unfortunately, Rupa’s mother succumbs to her injuries while her father is taken to prison. Rupa is forced to move in with her grandmother, who works for Laal’s family. Laal is overjoyed as he gets to live with his best friend.

Laal and Rupa attend the same university. Singh pursues his track while Rupa pursues modelling in hopes of moving to Bombay and getting rich someday. After college, Laal joins the army, and Rupa moves to Bombay.

While serving, Laal makes a friend, Balaraju, popularly known as Bala. Bala and he set a dream to open an undergarment factory after their service together. But sadly, war struck in 1999. Rupa writes to Laal to run as fast as he can when in danger. Danger strikes, and Laal sprints, until he realises his dear friend was left behind. He runs back to save him but keeps finding wounded soldiers on his way who require saving as well, including a Pakistani Commander. Laal Singh saves 5 lives, leaving the one he wanted to save most, Bala’s. He is awarded for the same.

Laal, after his service, comes to visit Rupa only to find her having an affair with a well-known, rich gangster in Mumbai. When Laal comes to see her, he is met with the sight of Rupa being slapped by her gangster lover, which then ended up in Laal beating him up. Rupa only begs Laal to leave her alone as she feels the only way she can fulfil her dreams is through this. Rupa preferred money over morals.

Laal ends up fulfilling his dream that he only expressed in theory with his friend Bala. He opens an undergarment store but had no clue how to market it. Then enter the Pakistani Commander. He iterates that garments with female names as the brand name itself do well. Laal names it after the love of his life, Rupa, and sales are booming. In the meantime, Laal is met with his mother’s demise.

Despite its lack of climax and story, this is an adorable movie. The movie shows the protagonist’s life and how life has so much in store for him. It is funny, sad, dramatic, and everything at once. Its such a simple watch that plays with your emotions. It has so many ups and downs. You will cry tears of joy and sadness while you watch this. It is definitely worth a watch, or even multiple, for that matter. If you have already watched Forrest Gump, like I have, you would realise that the movie has been done justice.
